Plumsted Township doesn't collect household trash itself. Chapter 55 of the township code requires households to contract for private trash collection unless they haul their own trash to the disposal facility, and the PMUA says trash service isn't included in your taxes. The PMUA publicly bids a trash and recycling contract that residents can sign up for, and those customers pay the PMUA directly.
Under the PMUA's bulk guidelines, bulk items are picked up once a month and can't exceed an area 4 feet high, 4 feet wide and 4 feet long. Mattresses, box springs and toilets must be wrapped in plastic, and refrigerators and freezers aren't taken without certification that the Freon was removed.
The Township Recycling Center at 2 Cedar Street, next to the Police Station, accepts electronics, metal, light iron, white goods and auto batteries. The PMUA's bulk guidelines say washers, dryers and other household appliances are not bulky waste and can be taken there instead.
