Many Ocean County bulk pickups start with a phone call

Each Ocean County town runs its own bulk program, and several of the ones we serve want a call first. Brick, Lakewood and Toms River put you on a list when you call Public Works, and Lakewood moves a request made on pickup day to the following month. Jackson and Manchester collect by zone on a set schedule, Manchester only twice a year.

Then come the sorting rules. Lakewood sends furniture, metal and electronics out on separate trucks, Toms River splits metal from everything else, and Jackson won't take items packed in cardboard boxes or dark plastic bags. Piles have size limits too: Jackson's can't be bigger than 4 by 4 by 8 feet, and on the Plumsted MUA contract in New Egypt, bulk has to fit within a 4-foot cube.

Most of these programs leave out construction and demolition debris, and Toms River also turns away move-outs and large volumes, pointing residents to a private removal service. That's the work we do. Nothing goes to the curb, so there's no list to get on and no zone date to wait for. If your date already passed, the missed bulk pickup guide lays out your other options.

Sheds, decks, hot tubs and pools in Ocean County

Town bulk programs here aren't built for take-downs. Brick's Recycling Center refuses construction materials of any kind, Manchester's crews won't take concrete or tree stumps, and Jackson's pickup excludes masonry and construction debris. Ocean County itself points residents with concrete, brick and wood waste to licensed Class B recycling facilities.

We take sheds, decks, hot tubs, above-ground pools and playsets apart on site, haul every piece and sweep up. Metal goes to a scrap yard for recycling, and concrete from footings or pads goes to a licensed recycler, not in with the trash.

Estate cleanouts and downsizing in Ocean County

Whiting, in Manchester, takes in several retirement communities, and Lakewood has Leisure Village. In communities like these, the association or management office may set its own rules on truck parking and work hours, so ask them before the day and tell us what they say when you ask for a price.

For an estate cleanout or a move to a smaller home, we clear the house from attic to basement, plus the garage and shed, working around what the family is keeping. Relatives who live out of state can text photos for a price before they travel, and furniture in good shape is donated when possible.

Where Ocean County junk goes

Ocean County loads go toOcean County Landfill, Manchester

Trash from our Ocean County jobs goes to the Ocean County Landfill on Route 70 in Manchester. Ocean County's solid waste plan sends the county's non-recyclable trash there, and the county lists it for bulky trash disposal. The landfill is privately owned and operated, separate from the county's Department of Solid Waste Management.

The county's plan also prohibits collecting trash mixed with recyclables, so we sort before we unload. Metal goes to a scrap yard for recycling. Concrete and tires go to licensed recyclers, and electronics do too, since New Jersey law keeps TVs, computers and monitors out of the trash. Furniture in good shape is donated when possible.

We don't take paint, gasoline, propane tanks, pool chemicals or other hazardous waste. The county's Northern Recycling Center on New Hampshire Avenue in Lakewood has a special waste station for electronics, paint and waste oil, and the county holds household hazardous waste collection days for residents who register.

Bulk pickup, town by town

  • Brick: Bulk, metal and brush are picked up by appointment through Public Works, with a yearly limit. The Ridge Road Recycling Center takes bulk with proof of residence, but no construction materials.
  • Jackson: Curbside bulk on your zone's schedule, out up to 48 hours early, in a pile no bigger than 4 by 4 by 8 feet. No construction debris, electronics or masonry. Transfer Station drop-off for residents.
  • Lakewood: Monthly curbside bulk by zone, only after you call Public Works to register. Furniture, metal and electronics go on separate trucks. Construction debris, stumps and logs aren't picked up.
  • Manchester: Curbside bulk twice a year by zone or community, with a volume limit. No construction debris, concrete, tires or stumps. The Whiting Recycling Center takes bulk from residents with a township vehicle sticker.
  • New Egypt: Plumsted doesn't pick up trash. On the Plumsted MUA contract, bulk goes out monthly by section and must fit a 4-foot cube; other haulers set their own rules. No electronics, tires or propane tanks.
  • Point Pleasant: The Borough takes one large item a week with regular trash, and metal by appointment. Point Pleasant Beach collects bulk by appointment on limited dates. Both need proof that Freon was removed from appliances.
  • Toms River: One bulk collection a month: call Public Works and describe what's going out. Metal and non-metal are separate pickups, Freon appliances need a removal sticker, and move-outs or construction debris aren't taken.

Where does junk from Ocean County go?

Trash that can't be reused or recycled goes to the Ocean County Landfill on Route 70 in Manchester, where the county's solid waste plan sends non-recyclable waste. Metal goes to a scrap yard, concrete, tires and electronics go to licensed recyclers, and usable furniture is donated when possible.

How much does junk removal cost in Ocean County?

Each job gets one price up front, covering the lifting, hauling and disposal. The amount depends on what's going, how much of it there is and how hard it is to reach, and every job starts at our $250 minimum. What we quote is what you pay. Photos texted to (855) 655-7552 usually get a price back within minutes during business hours.

Can you come today?

Often, yes. Same-day and next-day openings are often available in Ocean County. Text or call early in the day for the best chance at a same-day visit, and once you agree to the price, most jobs are hauled the same visit.

How do I get rid of a mattress in Ocean County?

Most towns handle mattresses through their bulk program, and Lakewood wants them wrapped first. Our Ocean County mattress guide walks through town rules and drop-off. Or we carry it out from any room, with no call to Public Works and nothing to wrap.

Do I have to call Public Works first if you haul it?

No. Nothing goes to the curb, so there's no list to get on and no zone date to wait for. We carry items out from inside the house, garage or yard and load them straight onto our truck.
