- Point Pleasant Borough's trash is collected by a private firm and lifted by hand, so cans need lids, can't be over 50 pounds, and large toter-style cans aren't accepted. One large item, such as a dresser, sofa or mattress and box spring, can go out with regular trash. Upholstered items must be kept dry, and carpet goes out one room at a time, cut into 3-foot sections and tied.
- The Borough picks up construction debris only in small amounts that count as your one large item. Larger amounts must go to the Ocean County Landfill in Manchester. Metal, white goods and brush are picked up by appointment through Public Works, and refrigerators and freezers must have the Freon removed first, with the receipt brought to the Public Works office for a sticker. Electronics aren't picked up at the curb.
- The Borough's Arthur Avenue Recycling Center, behind the shopping plaza at Bridge Avenue and Route 88, asks you to show ID. It takes metal and white goods, brush, electronics including TVs and computers, and tires for a fee, but never household trash, construction debris, wood, concrete, asphalt, dirt or grass clippings.
- Point Pleasant Beach collects furniture, carpeting and some appliances by appointment, and you buy a bulk coupon in advance, priced per item. Residents can also pay at Borough Hall for a coupon and drop bulk at the borough Recycling Center on Cooks Road, behind the train station, with proof of residency. The bulk program is for residents and property owners only, with no contractors or commercial plates, and takes no asbestos or flammable or hazardous materials. TVs and computers aren't accepted, and refrigerators and air conditioners need a certificate that a licensed professional removed the Freon.
