Junk removal in North Hanover
North Hanover Township covers about 17.5 square miles of Burlington County, along its borders with Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean counties. It takes in Jacobstown, home of the Municipal Building on Schoolhouse Road, along with Arneytown, Ellisdale and Sykesville, plus part of the McGuire Air Force Base area of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. No state or federal highway runs through it. County Routes 528 and 537 are the main roads, and part of the township lies in the Pinelands Area.
Trash works a little differently here. Residents can buy an annual permit that lets them drop household rubbish at the township Waste Facility on Meany Road, which also takes brush and electronics from residents. For bulky items like furniture, the township's pages point to its once-a-year fall clean-up. Good to know in North Hanover
- North Hanover Township's Waste Facility at 49 Meany Road, just off Route 528, is for township residents only. Residents use it for standard household rubbish with an annual permit sticker, which is available only through the Municipal Building (in person or by mail), not at the facility.
- Brush can go to the Waste Facility during its open hours, but not in plastic bags or containers, and commercial brush disposal isn't allowed. The township's brush flyer, linked from its Trash page, says brush drop-off is for residents who hold a Waste Facility permit.
- The Waste Facility offers free electronics recycling for township residents. The township's flyer says anything with an electrical cord or batteries is accepted, along with household items that don't contain a compressor.
- Curbside recycling is provided through a partnership between the township and Burlington County. The township asks residents not to put batteries in the trash or in recycling, and warns that batteries in recycling can cause fires at the recycling plant.
- Burlington County's Resource Recovery Complex at 22000 Burlington-Columbus Road in Florence runs a convenience center for residents and businesses whose loads have to be unloaded by hand, such as from a pickup truck, with separate containers for wood waste and mixed trash. The county sets disposal fees for the Complex, so check its current fee schedule before you go.
Bulk trash pickup in North Hanover
North Hanover Township collects bulky items at its yearly fall clean-up, which is open to all North Hanover residents. On clean-up day you can bring bulky items to the Waste Facility on Meany Road yourself. Or you can buy a per-item sticker at the Municipal Building ahead of time and have the township pick the item up at the end of your driveway. The flyer says the item must be a true bulky item, such as furniture that won't fit in your car, and mattresses must be wrapped in plastic. The clean-up doesn't take household trash, which still needs the annual Waste Facility permit. The event also takes household hazardous waste such as paint and fluorescent bulbs, and offers on-site paper shredding. The flyer also points residents to the county's Resource Recovery Complex in Florence. Dates, sticker prices and deadlines can change, so check the township's current flyer before you plan around it.
