City or township? Bulk rules can change across the street
Two of the Burlington County names we serve each cover two towns. Bordentown Township books bulk by appointment twice a month by zone, while Bordentown City wants bulky items bundled or broken down so no piece is longer than three feet, and runs a drop-off at Gilder Field for city residents. The City of Burlington picks up bulk by appointment with a two-item limit, and Burlington Township schedules its own pickups, with separate metal and wood collections.
Elsewhere the approach varies just as much. Florence, Mansfield and Mount Holly let a limited amount go out with the regular trash, Chesterfield leaves bulk to each household's private hauler, and North Hanover handles bulky items at one fall clean-up. Mount Holly also warns that large amounts left at the curb after a move-out or cleanout won't be picked up and may lead to code enforcement, and it asks for a dumpster instead.
We skip the bundling, the call-in deadlines and the dumpster. We carry everything out from inside, and most jobs are hauled the same visit. If your pickup already came and went, the missed bulk pickup guide covers what else you can do.
Sheds, decks, hot tubs and pools in Burlington County
Most curbside programs here stop at furniture. Florence counts concrete, cinder blocks, brick and stone as construction debris it won't pick up, Mansfield turns away concrete, brick and tree stumps, and the City of Burlington doesn't take construction debris or concrete as bulk.
We take sheds, decks, hot tubs, above-ground pools and playsets apart on site, haul every piece and sweep up. Metal goes to a scrap yard for recycling, concrete footings go to a licensed recycler, and the rest goes to the county's Resource Recovery Complex.
Estate cleanouts, downsizing and move-outs
A whole-house job doesn't fit a weekly trash day, and Florence doesn't collect waste from landlords, contractors or businesses at all. For an estate cleanout or a move to a smaller home, we clear the house from attic to basement, plus the garage and shed, working around what the family is keeping. Relatives who live out of state can text photos for a price before they travel.
For tenant move-outs, evictions and foreclosures, see rental cleanouts. Furniture in good shape is donated when possible.
Where Burlington County junk goes
Burlington County loads go toBurlington County Resource Recovery Complex
Loads from our Burlington County jobs go to the county's Resource Recovery Complex, which sits on land in both Florence and Mansfield townships, off the Columbus exit of I-295. It takes solid waste from all 40 Burlington County municipalities and has landfills, a convenience center, a bulky materials area for scrap metal, wood, asphalt shingles and tires, and a hazardous waste facility for county residents.
The complex won't landfill bulk liquids or designated recyclables, a list that includes cardboard, computers, printers, fluorescent lights, metal appliances, tires and TVs. It runs a separate drop-off for clean, dry mattresses, and it turns away anyone delivering waste in a rented truck.
That's why we separate as we load. Metal goes to a scrap yard for recycling, TVs, computers, tires and concrete go to licensed recyclers, and furniture in good shape is donated when possible. We don't take paint, solvents or other hazardous waste; the county's hazardous waste facility at the complex takes those from residents.
Bulk pickup, town by town
- Bordentown: The Township picks up bulk by appointment, twice a month by zone, with an item limit and appliances booked separately. In the City, bulky items must be bundled or cut to three feet or less.
- Burlington: The City picks up bulk by appointment, two items per household, with mattresses bagged. Burlington Township books bulk by appointment too. Neither takes electronics, propane tanks, concrete or construction debris as bulk.
- Chesterfield: No township trash or bulk pickup; private haulers handle bulk items, so ask yours. The recycling drop-off next to Public Works takes metal, white goods, electronics, clean wood and brush during limited hours.
- Florence: Couches, tables and mattresses go out with regular trash, a manageable amount at a time. Appliances, electronics and metal need a scheduled pickup through the Clerk's Office. No concrete, brick or contractor waste.
- Mansfield: Furniture goes out on your regular trash day, with a per-pickup item limit that counts your trash too. Metal needs a scheduled special pickup. No electronics, concrete, brick or stumps at the curb.
- Mount Holly: One large item per weekly trash collection, with mattresses bagged. Appliances and metal need a requested pickup. Large move-out or cleanout piles at the curb won't be picked up.
- North Hanover: Bulky items go at the yearly fall clean-up: bring them to the Meany Road Waste Facility, or buy a per-item sticker for driveway pickup. Mattresses must be wrapped in plastic.
