Junk removal in Burlington
Burlington is really two towns sharing the 08016 ZIP code. The City of Burlington, founded by mostly Quaker English settlers in 1677, sits on the Delaware River at the Burlington-Bristol Bridge and has two historic districts on the National Register. On the New Jersey side, its only neighbor is Burlington Township, about 14 square miles that include Springside, Fountain Woods, Deacons and Stevens. The two run separate trash and bulk programs, so the rules depend on which one you live in.
In the City, bulk pickup is by appointment, with a two-item limit and a weight cap, and it excludes metal items and freon appliances. In the Township, the trash company picks up couches and mattresses by appointment, and Public Works runs separate metal and wood pickups. Neither program takes construction debris or concrete. - The City of Burlington and Burlington Township are separate municipalities that share ZIP 08016. The City's only New Jersey neighbor is the Township, and each runs its own trash collection and bulk rules.
- City bulk pickup is by appointment only through the Public Works Garage. The City allows two items per household, each no more than 75 pounds, and mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in bags. Electronics, propane tanks, grass clippings, metal items, freon appliances, construction or contractor debris, concrete and bagged trash don't count as bulk.
- The City Recycling Drop-off Center on Jacksonville Road takes recyclables, scrap metal and appliances without freon. It does not take furniture, lumber, building or demolition materials, concrete, asbestos or bagged household trash. The City says those go to the Burlington County landfill or a dumpster at your own expense.
- In Burlington Township, trash must fit in Township-issued carts. Items too big for the cart, such as couches, mattresses and box springs, are picked up by the trash company by appointment, and Public Works offers separate metal and wood collections. You're not on the schedule until the Public Works Office confirms your date. Township bulk does not include electronics, propane tanks, construction or contractor debris, concrete or white goods.
- The Burlington Township Compost/Recycling Facility on Lake Avenue is for Township residents only, with proof of residency, and no commercial users. It takes items like appliances, metal, wood and tires, and mattresses don't need to be wrapped there, but it's meant for reasonable amounts and attendants can send large loads elsewhere.
Bulk trash pickup in Burlington
The City and the Township handle bulk trash separately.
