- Princeton was formed on January 1, 2013, by consolidating the Borough of Princeton and Princeton Township, which surrounded it. Both old governments are gone, and trash and bulk rules now come from the Municipality of Princeton.
- Homes with one to four units get a municipal trash cart and weekly curbside collection by the municipality's contractor. Only trash inside the municipal cart is collected; loose or bagged trash left beside it is not. Buildings with more than four units, and some neighborhoods with homeowner associations, aren't eligible for this service, and owners of larger multi-unit properties arrange private collection.
- Bulk waste is collected only by reservation, up to two items a week, each under 50 pounds. Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic, mirrors must be fully taped, sectionals taken apart, and rugs cut into three-foot sections, rolled and tied. Nothing goes to the curb until you get your assigned date.
- Bulk pickup won't take appliances, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, electronics and TVs, metal, tires, fencing, swing sets, hot tubs and spas, concrete or brick, building materials, construction debris, yard waste, or flammable items like grills, lawn mowers and propane tanks. Flood-damaged household goods aren't accepted either.
- Princeton no longer accepts electronics, including TVs. Mercer County holds household hazardous waste and electronics recycling events, and Princeton periodically hosts a residents-only household recycling and shredding event that takes large appliances, metal and electronics.
Bulk trash pickup in Princeton
Princeton collects bulk waste at the curb by reservation only. You book online before the weekly deadline, the municipality tells you your pickup date, and nothing should go out before then, because bulk left out without a reservation isn't collected.
